It's important who you know -- and what you show. Just ask Rich Sherratt, chairman and CEO of Alameda's Ballena Technologies Inc.

Ballena inked a deal with the NBA and WNBA to provide it's online, three-dimensional services to league teams. Exact terms of the seven-figure deal were undisclosed.

A couple of years ago, Sherratt told former Oakland A’s executive Andy Dolich about Ballena’s development of 3-D models that would allow potential ticket buyers (and advertisers) to see the view from their seats online. Dolich, liked what he saw and remembered Ballena as he became president of business operations with NBA’s Vancouver (now Memphis) Grizzlies.

Ballena, which launched “Seats3D” a year ago, already has deals with International Speedway Corp., which owns 12 race tracks including Daytona International Speedway, as well as the University of California and the New England Patriots.

Financed mostly by Sherratt, Ballena derives its revenue from licensing the technology, but it’s moving toward taking a percentage of ticket sales.
