New Website Opens the Doors to John Paul Jones Arena
3D Virtual Tour Provides Detailed Look from Arena Seating Areas
Charlottesville - A new multi-media website for the University of Virginia's John Paul Jones Arena has been launched to give Cavalier fans up-to-date information on the project. Highlighting the site is a 3D virtual tour of the arena seating bowl that allows season ticket holders and prospective season ticket buyers the opportunity to view seat locations and also their vantage point inside the arena.
The website can be accessed from the front page of www.VirginiaSports.com or www.VirginiaAthleticsFoundation.com.
In addition to the 3D tour, visitors to the site can view construction photos, browse through virtual renderings of the Arena's numerous features, review seating maps and read about the vision, purpose and timeline elements to the project.
Prospective donors will find a wealth of helpful links regarding tickets, funding, gift opportunities and answers to seat-related questions.
A series of feature stories will be available on the front page of the website to give Virginia fans timely updates as John Paul Jones Arena nears its opening this summer. The first feature details the new Hoo Vision audio-visual system in the building
"We are excited to provide Virginia fans this detailed perspective of John Paul Jones Arena several months prior to its opening," said Dirk Katstra, Executive Director of the Virginia Athletics Foundation. "The 3D virtual tour will give fans the view from every seat in the building without actually stepping foot in the arena. It is the same technology that a number of the NBA teams use on their ticket websites. "
With a seating capacity of 15,000, John Paul Jones Arena will nearly double the 8,392-seat configuration of University Hall. The design will allow fans an intimate setting with state-of-the art amenities for all events and an unsurpassed game day experience for Virginia basketball contests.
The multi-purpose nature of John Paul Jones Arena will bring numerous non-athletic events to the University. It will also house Virginia's student-athlete academic affairs office, the athletic department's dining facility and offices for several support areas. The Cavalier men's and women's basketball teams will operate from new offices in the Arena with spacious locker rooms and separate practice facilities.
John Paul Jones Arena is a unique collegiate facility with ninety-nine percent of the funding to construct the $129.8 million arena coming from private sources. Paul Tudor Jones II made a $35 million commitment to the University for the new arena and chose to honor his father, John Paul Jones, by naming the facility for him.
